My 2 daughters and I wandered in to an empty restaurant and only a handful of people on the patio. We didn't have a reservation so we understood the likelyhood of not being accommodated. What we were stunned by was an owner who clearly does not value kindness and courtesy. She was abrupt, rude and non challant in sending us to another restaurant. I would expect someone running a business to take a little more care in building a reputation. Kindness is a choice. We would have happily returned with a reservation another day if we had felt welcome. Perhaps the owner was having an off day. Unfortunate. I don't care if you're the only place in town with that breathtaking view, I'd rather eat in a closet at the shabbiest house in town, as long as my family is treated kindly. Bye. Founder's has reached out with open arms and tables.
Lovely setting, warm and happy service and great food. You will enjoy your meal. Perfect for Annapolis Royal day!
So good, we went two nights in a row. Also, desserts are definitely worth the calories!
Good food, amazing setting, waiter was excellent. All let down by the portion sizes, which for the salad was starter sized. My scallops could have easily been fixed with a tiny bit more sauce (which was delicious) and some bread to mop it up.
A bit unfriendly and unaccomodating. Unfortunately posted hours online showed 2:30 pm closing. We arrived after searching for their restaurant at 2. Instead of offering a quick salad or drink as a consolation, we got abruptly turned away. They're lucky they're the only ones on the waterfront, with no competition they don't have to be polite and flexible.
Fantastic food and view right on the bay.
Absolutely beautiful view and excellent food. Restuarant does not allow kids, and that was nice to have a quiet meal (since we left our at home).HIGHLY recommend. FLAVOUR, presention and technique was noticeably high. We will be back.
Food was great. Service could be a bit better: we had the hardest time getting the break down of our bill. The server refused to give it us. Just found it really odd
Absolutely fantastic, the scallops were unbelieveable.
The staff was extremely brusque and dismissive. We chose to eat elsewhere.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! So fresh and well prepared.
Nice Restaurant ,good service, but for people I was talking to ,they don, texcept the to high prices.
So here’s the deal:The sea food chowder is excellent. Highly recommended. The schnitzels are good, and high in quantity. Good food. The back porch has the best view of the bay, and direct access to the boardwalk. Bring sunglasses if you’re eating after 5pm. The one downfall is that children are not permitted here. Not a problem for me, but I could see it causing issues for families. Super easy parking as well, and nice servers.
nice restaurant with a lot of european dishes - not only hamburgers. We liked the food the politeness of the staff and as the take care for our kids. Bonus nice vie to the sea. Go there enjoy it
Such lovely staff, and atmosphere beyond compare. Nice wine selection, and the Linzer cake for dessert was amazing!
Splendid service. Excellent Viennese cuisine, obviously homemade from scratch! And a nice view over the water. You may want to make a reservation.
Food was nice. The staff were nice. But one cup of coffee and no refill. I don’t thing I’ll be back for lunch.
Steak and lobster was fantastic !!
We were turned away at 2 despite the restaurant closing at 2:30 (as per google and their own signs). The ambiance looked good though, and the restaurant is definitely in a great location. Giving 3 stars to be fair.
We loved Compose for the following three reasons. One, the owner. Amanda is very involved in her restaurant and treats her customers in a splendid manner. Be server, Katy was equally involved, friendly and knowledgeable about the servings. The second was the setting. The restaurant sits on a rise overlooking a wonderful River. The Third, was the food. My wife had the lobster risotto. It was spectacular. I had the pan-fried scallops. They were equally good. Finally we topped it off with Apple strudel and ice cream. Amanda makes these in the winter and serves them during the season. If I ever come to Nova Scotia, I will surely visit this restaurant again.
Superb food, arguably the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. Amazing staff and atmosphere. Will be going back again for sure.
Staff seemed wildly surprised anyone visited them that night. We would've left the location after their initial reaction to us, but we were the only people their during conventional supper time, so we couldn't slip out without it being awkward. Our meal was fine, but we were told it was more of a seafood restaurant, and it barely had seafooy on the menu-- at best. Our server didn't know what "house red" meant. The music inside was terrible pan flute versions of 80s classics.Didn't have much, if any, local wines. The place began to fill up a bit more as we got closer to leaving, but we didn't understand why-- but it was the only restaurant on the shore, we were told, so...
Mother's Beware! The plan was to have a nice family dinner with my adorable 7 month old son. I carried him in to the restaurant to find it completely empty but thought, "well, thats not a good sign but let's try it anyway".Only when we got inside the waiter denied us access to the restaurant because "no children are allowed in".My son is a very calm and sweet little baby. I was disgusted that they shoved us out simply because we wanted to enjoy a night out as a family. I dont even think they have the legal right to discriminate in such a way. We went in at 5 PM. No one was in there, but I guess they hate children so much that they wouldnt even accommodate us in the completely empty space
We had a delicious meal.Wonderful service and beautiful atmosphere overlooking the Annapolis River. Can't wait to spend another evening at this restaurant..
Very good they managed to fit us in despite not receiving our booking. They went out of their way to make us welcome. The food was excellent as was the wine. Real Austrian strudel to finish was superb. Cannot praise this place enough would definitely go back if we ever return to this area.
The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great (only restaurant in town that is on the water). But the staff is not the friendliest, especially if you have kids.
Horrible four and service, owner was the most horrific person if all... will not recommend ever don't waste your money.
Excellent food, great cream cheese strudel, perfect view from the rear patio. A most enjoyable experience. Definitely would return and recommend.
Great view over the water and I like how the patio isn’t complete exposed to the sun. I popped in for lunch and had the scallops with roast potatoes. It was so good! The scallops were big and juicy and the potatoes were perfect for mopping up the remaining butter sauce. We shared some desserts and the Linzer Cake was lovely. Service was top notch as well.
Great little restaurant on the water with seafood (scallops) & pasta dishes!
Wonderful place...excellent food and atmosphere.. best Austrian Schnitzel since long time...you will enjoy it for sure and the prices are reasonable...for that great quality Food🎈🎈🎈🎈♥️♥️
Stopped to eat on the way from Yarmouth and we were pleasantly surprised!! Food was DELICIOUS!! Staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive and we sat outside with a view of the water!! I had the scallops with spaetzle...both were amazing! Gord had the lobster risotto and it was one of the best risottos we've had a restaurant! Perfectly cooked and flavored well! Dessert we had the strudel and chocolate cake (they were out of the top 3) and I would pass on the cake but strudel was delicious. Such a wonderful find and would love to go back!
Variable!! We had booked in advance so got above table with river views. One had the Vienna snitzel which was fabulous, I had lobster linguine with scallops. The scallops were great but the lobster was invisible!!! The server was so keen it was almost intrusive.
Artbyjo one of the finest restaurant in the area.
Menu non specific regarding ingredients, didn't mention french onion soup was topped with cheese. Also dishes were too salty.Prices appeared to relate to restaurant's waterfront position rather than quality of food.
Amazing food, accommodating chef, and wonderful staff.
Compose is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants in the region. Fine food. Fine location. Fine staff. The owner rules the kitchen and she is equally at home with local seafood, especially the Digby scallops, and with her native Austian schnitzel. We were here two nights. Both dinners were exquisite. My wife had the scallops and the salmon. I had two schnitzel variations. Mouth-watering. And the presentation was excellent. Did we like it? Enough to wish we were staying longer!
Excellent food, excellent service, lovely decor and awesome view
